Treatments
Most appointments are acupuncture, sometimes with cupping or advice on food and rest. I'll always explain what I'm doing before I do it.
Traditional acupuncture
Very fine, single-use sterile needles placed at points chosen for you. Most people feel a dull ache or a tingle as a needle goes in. The needles usually stay in for around twenty minutes while you lie comfortably.
People come to see me for many different reasons. At your first appointment I'll tell you honestly whether I think acupuncture is a good fit, and refer you on if it isn't.
Cupping
Glass cups create gentle suction on the skin of the back or shoulders. It's often combined with acupuncture in the same appointment, at no extra cost.
Food and lifestyle advice
Chinese medicine pays close attention to how you eat, sleep and rest. I'll suggest small, practical changes that fit your life.
Is acupuncture safe?
The NHS describes acupuncture from a qualified practitioner as generally very safe, with mild, short-lived side effects such as bruising or drowsiness in some people (NHS: acupuncture). I'm a member of the British Acupuncture Council and follow its codes of safe practice.
